Information on Senior Benefits Error – April 5, 2016

The Alaska Division of Public Assistance recently found some Senior Benefits payments for April were incorrectly issued. Approximately 3,800 Alaskans who are in the highest income bracket and receive their benefits via direct deposit were impacted. The amount of the deposit was $125 instead of the correct amount of $47.

To ensure Senior Benefit recipients in the effected income bracket receive the correct amount of benefits for the three month period of April, May and June, the benefits for May and June will be reduced to $8 each month so recipients receive the correct overall amount.

A letter will be mailed this week to explain the mistake, offer an apology, and detail the steps being taken to correct it.

“We’re sorry for any confusion this may have caused and are working hard to fix the error so it doesn’t happen again,” said Public Assistance Director Sean O’Brien.

If you have any questions about this payment error, please email the Division of Public Assistance at dpapolicy@alaska.gov or call your local Public Assistance office.
