WIC is a nutrition program that provides participants with healthy foods to meet their specific dietary needs. Examples of WIC foods include: milk, eggs, cheese, cereal, peanut butter, dry beans or peas, juice, infant formula and, for breastfeeding mothers, carrots and tuna or salmon. The WIC program specifies certain types, sizes, or brands of food items that contain the required nutrients, taking into consideration cost, availability and regional preferences. Participants and vendors are not allowed to substitute other foods or non-food items. It is very important for the success of the program that vendors keep the required WIC foods in stock and available at all times so participants may buy their prescribed foods when needed.
A WIC Food List describing and picturing the types and brands of foods that are authorized is available in different formats for vendors and participants. Select from the links below for the current WIC Food List.
