EMS Resources

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This organization, formerly known as Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), is involved in many facets of emergency medical services, including Medicare reimbursement and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act). The "negotiated rulemaking" process will have a significant impact on EMS throughout the country.
The Federal Register. The Federal Register is the official daily publication for Rules, Proposed Rules, and Notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as Executive Orders and other Presidential Documents.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
The National Practitioner Data Bank and the Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank. These databanks are part of the government's efforts to improve healthcare quality and alleviate the financial burden that healthcare fraud and abuse impose on the nation.
The Thomas Site. This federal legislative information site has a wealth of databases to search through and information to dispense including a search of Current Bill Summary and Status, Public Laws, and Congressional Record. The site is sponsored by the Library of Congress. Go exploring!
United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This is the site of the Federal OSHA program and is very nicely done. It has a logical layout and a stout search engine which allows the user to locate information regarding a specific regulation fairly easily.

Bill Action and Status Inquiry System (BASIS). The State of Alaska maintains a wonderful reference for researching the content and status of bills being considered by the Alaska State Legislature. This site allows you to search for bills by subject, sponsor, and other criteria. Once you know the bill number, it's a snap to find its current status.
State of Alaska Statutes and Regulations. This site is part of the Alaska State Legislature's web system and worth a visit even if you don't have a statute or regulation to research. The system has an outstanding interface which makes searching rapid and productive. This site has a nice search engine which allows you to find regulations and statutes based on a keyword search.
