Kodiak Public Health Center
The Kodiak Public Health Center provides services to the Kodiak Island Borough including Kodiak City and surrounding area, the villages of Port Lions, Ouzinkie, Old Harbor, Akhiok, Karluk and Larsen Bay as well as the Danger Bay logging camp on Afognak Island. The Health Center is staffed by Public Health Nurses (PHN I-II), Team Lead (PHN III), and an Office Manager (OA II).
Kodiak Public Health Nurses provide clinic services as noted below, and take an active role in the health of the community at large. Collaborating with community partners, nurses sit on the steering committee for the Healthy Tomorrows Wellness Coalition, work with the Local Emergency Planning Committee on preparedness, participate in domestic violence multidisciplinary teams and assist with health teaching in the school district. They also help in the organization and presentation of the Kodiak Strong! Planning Day in which yearlong community wellness goals are chosen.
Public health nursing plays a major role in infectious disease surveillance and investigation. We partner with State of Alaska Epidemiology through local public health nursing case investigation of tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), foodborne illnesses and other reportable diseases such as giardiasis.
Each clinic visit, we also offer individual screenings and referrals for domestic violence, healthy lifestyle, and alcohol use.
