  • Women with disabilities are as likely and sometimes more likely to get breast cancer as the general population due to having more risk factors that women in general. Tips for Women with Disabilities on Understanding Breast Cancer stress the importance of early screening and give recommendations for women with disabilities to follow.*

 

 

 

  • Access to health clubs and fitness facilities is also a key concern for individuals experiencing disabilities. “Removing Barriers to Health Clubs and Fitness Facilities,” a booklet developed by the Center for Universal Design and the North Carolina Office on Disability and Health, provides guidelines to help fitness providers make their facilities as accessible as possible.
