Current Projects
The program serves as a resource for and collaborates with school nurses and other disciplines, school districts, agencies, and programs to improve services, develop policies/guidance, and provide information about health issues and needs affecting Alaska school children:
- Consultation and collaboration with national and state advisory committees including the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants, National School Nurse Association, Alaska Association of School Nurses, American School Health Association
- Consultation and collaboration with the Department of Health and Social Services, the Department of Education and Early Development, the Department of Transportation, All Alaska Pediatric Partnership, and the Section of Chronic Disease to complete the action planning process and recommendations for the STUDENT HEALTH & SAFETY section of the Alaska Education Plan; CDC Coordinated School Health will provide framework for the Alaska Education Plan
- Inter- and intra-agency collaboration and partnering for school based health clinics, oral health sealant program, emergency/disaster plans, and health services in schools for children with special health care needs
- Leadership of school health nurse advisory committee providing input for policy and protocol development and best practice guidelines to provide standardization state-wide
- Development and coordination of school nurse continuing education identified through a needs assessment process
- Research and evaluation of best practices in the provision of comprehensive well child preventative health visits that include developmental assessments
