Lanny Mommsen joined the staff of the Governor's Council on Disabilities and Special Education in April 2014 as the Health Program Manager then promoted to Research Analyst III. She serves as Project Director for the Alaska Safety Planning Empowerment Network (ASPEN) as well as Project Coordinator for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Health and Disability grant. After a few years as an accountant and other random jobs, Lanny started pursing her passion for public health in 2009 when she started her Master's degree program in Public Health (Promotion and Behavioral Sciences) at San Diego State University. She has worked as a research assistant at San Diego State Research Foundation in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco avoidance. She was a health promotion intern at San Ysidro school district focusing on healthy lifestyles. After moving back to Anchorage in 2011, she worked for Anchorage Community Mental Health Services as a case manager. There, she started both a community wellness and a physical activity group for clients. In her free time, Lanny spends as much time out in the sun as possible. She enjoys hiking, rafting, kayaking, skiing, and spending time with her family and friends.
