The Alaska Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education is pleased to announce two newly filled staff positions.


  Lanny Mommsen was recently promoted to the position of Research Analyst III. Lanny joined the staff of the Council  in April 2014 as a Health Program Manager where she served as the Project Director for the Alaska Safety Planning Empowerment Network (ASPEN) as well as Project Coordinator for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Health and Disability grant. Lanny holds a Master's degree in Public Health (Promotion and Behavioral Sciences) from San Diego State University and worked previously as a research assistant at San Diego State Research Foundation in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco avoidance.

  Anne Applegate was hired for the position of Program Coordinator II and will begin March 27.  Anne joins the Council having worked at the Disability Law Center of Alaska as a staff attorney since 2009. She assisted individual clients with disabilities on many different civil rights issues or violations, including ADA, housing  employment, special education and more. Anne is licensed to practice law in Alaska, has her Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of California Hastings College of Law, and holds a B.A. in Anthropology from UC Berkeley. The Council is excited to have Anne’s disability law experience, especially around employment and special education and welcome her to our policy team. Anne has previously been an active public member of the Council’s Education Committee.
