FAQs

Question: How do I find out about specific OCS policies or educate myself on the process for issues I have concerns about or think others may not understand?

Answer: The policy manual provides detailed background information and specific instructions for OCS staff on the process for completing all of the tasks required to initiate and manage a case from intake, initial assessment, family services/case management and case closure (including placement, reunification and adoption). It also contains special sections on court proceedings, the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) and miscellaneous administrative topics.

Every section provides the specific state or federal law or regulation that the policy is directed or governed by, followed by specific policies and procedures. Our manual is literally in a constant state of revision, and we recognize that some sections are outdated.

The OCS policy and procedure manual is posted on line via our website. Click here to be automatically routed, and then select "Child Protection Services Manual."
