Lance Brown

Lance Brown, aka "Mr. Health Fair", was known far and wide as the major recruiter for volunteers to work at the annual Juneau Health Fair. One year it was his turn to get checked at the blood draw. What followed was a phone call to advise him that his cholesterol and blood sugar were elevated and he needed to take steps to save his own life. His primary mode of transportation was walking anyway but then he began taking walking breaks with co-workers. The trails also beckoned him after work instead of baking cookies. Lance lost weight and lowered his cholesterol and blood sugar, while still savoring chocolate. He admits it's been hard to keep up the intensity after a couple years but some things have changed. He does grab a cookie sometimes but not a dozen. Occasionally the winter weather will slow him down but then he can strap on a pair of snowshoes to hike the trails...
