Tuberculosis

Public Health Nurses prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) through education, screening, surveillance, contact investigations, and through partnering with providers in intensive case management to ensure effective treatment for clients with tuberculosis disease.

Public Health Nursing services include:

TB screening/prevention

  • Individuals and schools
  • Symptom screen
  • TB Skin Test (PPD)
  • Sputum collection and testing
  • Community-wide targeted testing

TB case management

  • Monitor TB treatment and client compliance
  • Ensure client receives appropriate treatment
  • Provide or coordinate Directly Observed Therapy (DOT)

TB education

  • Clients and families
  • Community
