Medicare Part D:

Prescription Drug Plan (PDP)

People with Medicare can get insurance coverage for prescription drugs through Medicare drug plans. These drug plans are run by Medicare-approved private insurance companies. You can get information about the Medicare drug plans in your area by visiting www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan or by calling Alaska’s Medicare Information Office at 1-800-478-6065 or in Anchorage at (907) 269-3680. You can also look in your “Medicare & You” handbook which is mailed to Medicare beneficiaries every year

Note: If you have prescription drug coverage now, contact your insurer to find out how your coverage works with, or is affected by, Medicare prescription drug coverage. It’s important you contact your insurer before you join a Medicare drug plan because the action you take can affect your current coverage.

Getting Help with Medicare Part D Costs

There is assistance available for people with Medicare who have limited incomes and resources. If they qualify, they can receive assistance with the Medicare Part D prescription plan costs.

NOTE: If you applied for extra help and received a letter stating that you do not qualify for assistance, you are still eligible to enroll in a PDP but will have the responsibility to pay the associated costs.
