Data Breach Notification
On September 16, 2021 DHSS notified the public of a security breach of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Alaska Personal Information Protection Act (APIPA). This breach was caused by a highly sophisticated cyberattack on DHSS that was first detected in May 2021.
Registration for a free year of credit monitoring protection was offered through February 28th, 2022. Email notices were sent to all Alaskans who have applied for a Permanent Fund Dividend and supplied an email address, which included a code to sign up for the credit monitoring service.
