Alaska Office of Children's Services Statistical Information

The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.

The following data was harvested from the OCS ORCARPT database on May 10, 2022.


Protective Service Reports Screened during the Month of April 2022

  • 1,817 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 462 Protective Service Reports were screened in (25%),
  • 1,355 Protective Service Reports were screened out.

Initial Assessments Completed for the Month of April 2022

  • 489 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 141 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (29%),
  • 348 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes count of Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care for the Month of April 2022

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 3,007 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; 1,996 of these children were Alaskan Native/American Indian (66%)
  • 77 children were removed from their home; 39 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (51%),
  • 53 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 28 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (53%).

Providers who were Licensed for All or Part of the Month of April 2022

There were 1,475 licensed homes during the month, including the following:

  • 609 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (101 of which met the standard for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 590 Child-Specific Foster Homes,
  • 167 Non-Child-Specific Foster Group Homes (23 of which met standards for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 44 Child-Specific Foster Group Homes,
  • 17 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 37 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 6 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 2 Maternity Homes,
  • 3 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
