Alaska Office of Children's Services Statistical Information

The Office of Children's Services (OCS) collects data on children and families referred for child protective services and on providers for out-of-home placements.

Statistical information is posted to this page by the 15th of each month in accordance with: Alaska Statutes Sec. 47.05.100, Monthly reports concerning children.

The following data was harvested from the OCS ORCARPT database on December 14, 2021.


Protective Service Reports Screened during the Month of November 2021

  • 1,687 Protective Service Reports were screened,
  • 642 Protective Service Reports were screened in (38%),
  • 1,045 Protective Service Reports were screened out.

Initial Assessments Completed for the Month of November 2021

  • 755 Initial Assessments were completed,
  • 172 Initial Assessments were Substantiated (23%),
  • 583 Initial Assessments were Not Substantiated (includes count of Closed without a Finding).

Children in Out-of-home care for the Month of November 2021

Please note that due to administrative processing, there may be a significant lag for entry of discharge data into ORCA, which may affect reporting accuracy for recent months.

  • 3,098 Children were in Out-of-home care during the month; 2,062 of these children were Alaskan Native/American Indian (67%)
  • 87 children were removed from their home; 51 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (59%),
  • 95 children were discharged from Out-of-Home care; 67 of these were Alaskan Native/American Indian (71%).

Providers who were Licensed for All or Part of the Month of November 2021

There were 1,506 licensed homes during the month, including the following:

  • 616 Non-Child-Specific Foster Homes (110 of which met the standard for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 614 Child-Specific Foster Homes,
  • 161 Non-Child-Specific Foster Group Homes (21 of which met the standard for the Indian Child Welfare Act),
  • 44 Child-Specific Foster Group Homes,
  • 18 Child Placement Agencies,
  • 40 Residential Child Care Facilities,
  • 8 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Centers,
  • 2 Maternity Homes,
  • 3 Tribal Foster Homes,
  • 0 Independent Living Programs,
  • 0 Assisted Living Facilities.
