Father's Day Celebration BBQ and Chili Cook Off

6/15/2018 - Stormy weather did not stop the annual Father’s Day Celebration BBQ that was held at the Anchorage Pioneer Home. Activities were held inside on the 5th floor where everyone was invited to wear their spurs and cowboy hats for the western theme. Entertainment and music was provided by the very talented Main Squeeze Band.

The festivities included the 23rd Pioneer Home Iron Chef competition with a chili cook off. Taking her job very seriously, Alaska Pioneer Homes director Amanda Lofgren, was one of the chili judges. The competition was open to all residents, family members, staff and volunteers. The Iron Chef Skillet award for first place went to Jean Weaver for her delicious moose chili recipe. Hamburgers and hotdogs were graciously donated by the Mason’s Lodge #1 of Anchorage.

All residents had a chance for door prizes. A special drawing for the fathers was held for hand-crafted quilts. Root beer floats were available at the Pioneer Home “Saloon”.
